Introduction
At Featherstone Primary School, our foundation subjects provide children with a rich, engaging and knowledge-rich learning experience. The curriculum is carefully designed to help pupils develop a deep understanding of the world around them while building the skills they need to become confident, curious and successful learners.
Through subjects such as History, Geography, Art and Design, Design Technology, Music, Computing, Religious Education and PSHE, children explore important concepts, ask meaningful questions and make connections between their learning. The curriculum is sequenced to ensure that knowledge and skills build progressively from Reception through to Year 6, allowing children to revisit and strengthen their understanding over time.
Our foundation curriculum promotes curiosity, creativity and critical thinking. Lessons are designed to be engaging and purposeful, helping children understand how their learning links to the wider world. Wherever possible, learning is enriched through educational visits, visitors, practical experiences and cross-curricular links that bring subjects to life.
The curriculum places a strong emphasis on developing children's vocabulary and understanding of key concepts. By learning and remembering important knowledge, pupils are equipped to think more deeply, ask thoughtful questions and apply their learning in different contexts.
